4TH IS BEST

By Luke Traynor on Feb 26, 08 12:25 PM in Misc LFC

THE race for 4th place is well and truly on.
Everton showed last night by dispatching early pace-setters Man City that they mean to push us all the way for the Champions League spot this season.
This time, Liverpool are not merely going to flop into fourth spot without some commitment, hard work and positivity on the pitch.

Make no mistake, beating Manchester City in their backyard is no mean feat.
We tried earlier in the season, and despite dominating the majority of the game, couldn't find a way past Dunne and Richards.
Everton did it with a minimum of fuss to confirm the strides they are making under Moyes.
Now, we have to respond.
With just 12 games to go, the Blues have 3 points on us, but we have a game in hand.
We're going to have to play a bit to get that all-important 4th place, the days of 'gimme wins', with 3 points guaranteed, are a thing of the past.
Sides likes Villa, Portsmouth and Man City, along with the obvious Big Four, can now upset the best, particularly at home.
A glance at the run-ins seem to show that Everton have the slightly easier pending fixture list.
Liverpool still have to play Man Utd, Tottenham and Arsenal away from Anfield while Everton have Arsenal at The Emirates and The Derby at Anfield.
It's time for certain players to have a big few months. They certainly owe Rafa that.
It's time for Pennant to have a long, sustained run in the side, make that right side his own and start supplying the ammunition that our type of forward line needs.
It's time for Alonso to realise that we paid big time money for him, and for that the fans deserve some big time performances.
He shouldn't decide to play second fiddle to Gerrard, and realise that we want a lot more than non penetrative sideways balls that don't hurt the opposition.
It's time for players like Kuyt to rediscover that belief and goalscoring instinct that made him a regular goalscorer in Holland.
Or failing that, just get in the box.
The 4th place is there for the taking, and I'm confident we'll occupy that slot come the middle of May, but we're going to have to pull a lot of fingers out to claim it.
Teams are not going to fade away for us this time round.

Good blog Luke. It won't be easy but the size of our squad should give us a slightly better cahnce than Everton and Villa.
I blame Rafa tho for us being in the position of sweating over fourth.
