LIVERTON
WHO would make your combined Liverpool/Everton XI if it was based on player form over the last 12 months?
I've got my head together with Bluenose, and fellow ECHO blogger Greg O'Keeffe, and we're picking alternative starting line ups.
Sure we won't agree.
In goal, I'd go for Reina. He's been in exceptional form this season, and rarely drops a clanger these days (touch wood).
Howard is having a great year, but I think the Spaniard just edges him.
At the back, there's some difficult choices to be made.
An easy first selection is Joleon Lescott at left back. Riise has been out of touch for some time now and Lescott's goalscoring knack is pretty incredible for a defender.
Watching that horse-style gallop up and down the touchline would be unnerving for his opposing full back too.
Nobody in their right mind would pick Hibbert, so it's Finnan at right back, even though his powers seem slightly on the wane, he's Mr Reliable.
Centre halves is where it gets tricky.
Two from Carragher, Agger, Yobo and Jagielka.
Carragher is a must, great organisation, leadership, desire and positional sense.
A lot of Blues really rate Yobo, but he does have the odd howler up his sleeve.
On current form, Jagielka would get the nod as he seems to be playing out of his skin at the moment and found his true position.
Agger has been forever out with injury this season, so assessing how he's playing is a guessing game.
But prior to his absence, he showed signs of being a mainstay of the Reds defence for years, so I go for the Dane.
Onto midfield, there's some obvious picks.
Gerrard in central midfield, and the team's captain.
Mascherano alongside him, sitting in front of the defence, destroying all before him.
The class of Arteta slots into right midfield, one of the most underrated platers in the Premiership.
He'd be taking the free-kicks, although there'd be no place in this Liverton outfit for any of that poncy throwing himself on the floor at the slightest touch.
The left midfield berth is the most tricky.
Pennant comes into my mind, but his flashes are too brief and he needs to find consistency.
Blues are constantly talking up Pienaar recently, and he goes close, but his Will O' The Wisp style is frustrating.
Osman gets picked as he's tenacious, skilful, a hard worker and weighs in with a fair share of goals.
Strikers, its a no brainer. Torres would wear the number nine jersey. I predict at least 30 Prem goals from him when the supply line to him is this good.
Joining him is Yakubu. I think the two could strike up a decent understanding.
His work-rate would be strictly monitored by Opta stats, and any hint of laziness would see Cahill take his place, just behind Torres.
On the bench, the pint-sized Aussie is primed and ready to come on at half-time if things aren't going well.
Some may be surprised he's not first choice, but he suffers from not being a natural centre-mid and his annoying boxer-style punching the corner flag celebration.
And you can't not pick Gerrard or Masch.
Piennar, Pennant, Jagielka, Crouch and Benayoun boast a bench full of attacking options.
Rafa is in charge, with Moyes as his able assistant.
Namewise, with a choice between Liverton and Everpool?
It's Liverton every time.
There you have it, a match for current leaders Arsenal, I believe.
Discuss.

That side would stroll the league Lucas.
I appreciate your core, and commend your inclusion of the under-rated Osman and Jagielka, but you'd have to find Agger before you got him playing for the dubiously-titled Liverton.
Are you sure he's not holed up in a Danish sauna drinking pink schnapps with Per Kroldrup talking about electronic music and tattoos?
I feel ill merely at the thought. Aaargh.
Osman? A poor man's Danny Murphy at best.
"Rafa is in charge" ... course he is, Luke - whatever you gotta tell yourselves ...
Please tell me that doesnt mean Rafa's doing a better job than Moyes, if it is, your kidding yourself!
Also, if the squad is based on current form, why on gods earth is Agger in it you *****!
In response to previous comments, I agree Rafa is not having the best of times at present, but I still feel he's a better boss than Moyes.
Benitez is still the manager who's taken Liverpool to two Champions League finals, and won us two trophies.
Moyes, I agree, is now starting to look like a very good boss now he's got some financial clout behind him.
Re Agger/Yobo. I think the Dane's a better centre half, and he's not been completely missing over the last 12 months.
Yobo looks good though.
re: Liverton, how can a side from merseyside be picked and not even a mention for Dirk Kuyt... total injustice... yes i know, it was a joke and so is the idea of a combined Liverpool and Everton team... but if it was to happen. I would personally pick Johnson ahead of the Yak!
i thought this was based on the last 12 months? Benitez is on the verge of a sacking and Moyes is on the verge of breaking into the champions league on a shoestring budget in relation and you still want to pick that Bore Benitez to manage the side!! if you want defeat then go ahead pick him.
Why omn earth is Rafa in charge? we want to win the league don't we? Moyes has taken Everton from the bottom 6 to the top 6. Rafa has tken Liverpool to challenging for 3rd or 4th to .er. challenging for 3rd or 4th. A great cup manager no doubt, but not yet (yet) a good premier league manager. £130 million should buy you more than a 4th placed scramble, especiallly when the team he inherited was top 4 already.
good team though
A worst Liverton team would be funny, I'd go:
1.Itandje
2. Hibbert
3. Riise
4. Hyppia (sorry sami, im a lpool fan and you're a legend, but just too slow now)
5. Neville
6. Valente
7. Gravesen (prob not strictly shit, but both clubs other centre mids are decent)
8. Voronin
9. Kuyt
10. Leto
11. Van de Meyde
It's all very commendable the way the Bluenoses defend their manager, and he's done a great job in his time at Goodison, but how about taking off the blue (and red) tinted glasses and looking solely at facts:
Liverpool are 4th.
Everton are 5th.
Liverpool are (once again) in the quarter finals of the European Cup.
Everton have (once again) been dumped out of the UEFA cup.
Liverpool have been in 2 European Cup finals in 3 years.
The 1 (one) time Everton made it to the Champions League, they didn't get past the qualifying group.
Facts, not opinions. Rafa > Moyes.
