LFC PROTEST

By Luke Traynor on Jun 9, 08 07:37 PM in

News of another protest against the club's American owners on Sunday.
It seems that the Hicks ownership debate has gone off the agenda for the last few weeks, hence the reason behind SOS's public showing over the weekend.
Decent turn out with around 250 at the Shankly Gates. Lots of beer and sun afterwards made it a good day for all concerned....

HUNDREDS of Liverpool fans united to protest at Anfield against the club's American owners.

They gathered on Walton Breck Road outside the Kop yesterday in another message of opposition to Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

Banners saying Yanks OUT and Repossessed were pinned on railings around the ground.

A padlock was fastened to the gates outside the Kop in a symbolic gesture to signify their unhappiness with the current regime.

The SOS fans group also planned to lobby supporters visiting the club shop about the protest.

Alan Kayll, from Spirit of Shankly, said: "When David Moores sold the club, he did so to allow the club to compete for the very best players and simultaneously build the stadium.

"The stadium finances are nowhere near being secured and we cannot compete for top quality now or have any great prospects for the future.

"Selling the family silver to Hicks and Gillett has proven to be a massive mistake, and every Liverpool supporter has to act and campaign against what is happening to our club."

Red Francis Stanton added: "Our repossession is about the rightful owners of the club claiming it back from the "tenants".

"Why can the club not afford to bid for 17-year-old prospects even when the manager wants them? We have paid the rent for our custodians long enough. It's time for an eviction."

The ownership of Liverpool remains in the balance with American co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett at loggerheads.

The Dubai-based consortium DIC has shown interest buying the club, but Hicks has repeatedly stated his intention of keeping hold of his 50% share.

This subject regarding Hicks & Gillett was so foreseeable it was something that I protested at way before they were eventually sold the Club. No this all goes way, way back and again I am going to point my finger a the chief culprit in all of this, who still hasn't answered for his role in this whole shambles of an affair..... Stand up and be counted one very greedy David Moores.

It didn't take a genius to work everything out. Moores did not want to do a new share rights issue or in fact do anything which would devalue his holding stake at the Club and ultimate lead to any lessening of his own riches to be gained from any future sale. No, Moores did everything he could to line his own pocket at the expense of the Club. In fact even the money for new players, that he was so graciously attributed towards purchasing at great expense to himself, were in fact only loans and he was in fact one of the main outstanding creditors. Easy money really. Loan out on the strength that this would return. What an investment.

Sorry but now is the time to put the boot in good and proper. Both Moores & Parry should be publicly flogged for their involvement in all of this. Basically the Club could have and should have been in the hands of true fans who could have taken us forward. We could have had the Arsenal blueprint years ago, before even Arsenal had it in place. Yet it is the inadequacies and ultimately the greed of Moores that held us back. - No I'm sorry but David Moores should be held accountable for being involved in the destruction of two of Liverpool's City main institutions, Liverpool FC & Littlewoods Org. What next for this modern day Judas?

Dear Luke,

I am writing you from halfway across the globe, just to express my
disappointment and disgust with what is happening with our dear club.. I
am a Lebanese, and have been brought up to be a fan that holds Liverpool
Football Club, close close to my heart.. I believe in everything the
club stands for, and I have faith that the glory days are till in
reach, as soon as we get rid of those two clowns.. I want you to know,
that the Liverpool support in Lebanon and across different areas in the
Middle East is immense, and every time I discuss our club's issues, we
are filled with desperation and frustration. I would hate to see Manu
equal our PL titles next season!!!
We have to be more active, I have already subscribed in "shareLiverpool"
and have recommended it to tens of friends, my guess is that is our only
option should Hicks continue to resist a DIC takeover of even 50% of the
club's shares..

I just felt like venting my frustration to somebody, and your article
caught my eye..

Given 95% of what has been reported has been incorrect, I'd like to wait and see what happens with the Hicks-Gillett feud first.

Also, the reason Liverpool can't afford top talent isn't because of the owners. It is due to Rick Parry's lack of talent.

Re LFC,

no money because of rick's lack of talent? how do you work that out? we've got cash flow issues because our owners are not putting their hands in their pockets. Simple as that.
