AFTER many of our dismal draws or defeats this season, some fans have been quick to chirp up and say: "What do you expect, when the owners won't financially back the manager?"
A fair point, some would offer.
But dropping points at well-baked Spurs and being held at home to money-bags Man City is one thing. Being outperformed by a side five places from the foot of the Championship is quite another.
AND so the gloom deepens.
We traditionally have too much for The Arsenal at Anfield, our power, physicality and high octane tempo often winning out over pretty passing patterns.
But the way we surrendered in the second half, limping through the last 25 minutes without so much as a whimper, was truly alarming.
A LITTLE late this, I know, but reporting duties have kept me chocca of late.
Still, a retrospective look at the Derby, with more time to ponder, is sometimes preferrable to kneejerk reactions to performances, n'est pas?
Or, 'No?'as Rafa would put it.
I digress.
First off, isn't that winning feeling great?
I'd forgotten what three points was...
FINALLY, one of the most protracted transfer sagas that Liverpool have been involved in comes to an end.
Alonso is on the verge of a Madrid for a reported fee of £30. But are Reds fans going to be happy with him departing and the probable arrival of Mr Aquilani?
SO, it looks like our Spanish right back is on his way.
Does £3.5-£4 seem like a paltry sum to anyone else?
SO, £17m for a full back?
And one from Portsmouth who is hardly a regular full international with 30+ international caps under his belt?
It seems a hell of a lot of money to pay.
I HAD this game down as a tricky one in the title challenge run-in.
As it transpired, this was as pleasant a stroll as we've had in many a season down in East London.
WHAT a game.
Tuesday's match against Arsenal will surely go down as one of the greatest in recent Premiership history.
But for Liverpool it was a damaging result.
IT WAS almost the perfect weekend.
Three points at a tough Craven Cottage with a last-gasp winner and Man Utd being held at home by Villa.
Sadly, it wasn't to be.
Hard to complain when we ourselves dragged victory from the jaws of a stalemate, but Sunday's result in Manchester has left us all a little flat.
But there's surely got to be more twists and turns and points dropped by all in this heady title race.
What a difference a couple of weeks makes.
Last weekend's drubbing of Man Utd was seen by many as a sweet postscript to a league campaign of so many what-might-have-beens.
Fast forward seven days, a Fulham win over the Mancs here, a routing of Villa by a rampant Liverpool there, and suddenly the title race is back in the mix.
It's a song we could have hardly imagined we'd have been singing at Old Trafford.
But we were.
Man United were mauled in their own backyard.
You can be certain it's been a good night for Liverpool when much-maligned full back Andrea Dossena sprints 60 yards to get into the box, controls and fires into the net of the best keeper in the world with aplomb.
IF EVER there was a recipe for a dire night in Europe, tonight was it.
Struggling to keep in touch with Man Utd in the Premiership, rumours about Rafa's job sweeping the city.
But then this is Liverpool. And a 1-0 win at the Bernabeu cauldron against a bang in form Real Madrid side, when the rest of the world is sniping, is pretty much par for the course for us.
THERE were two emotions uppermost in my mind moments after having watched Liverpool snatch an improbable victory from the jaws of defeat at Portsmouth.
Elation that we had managed to secure three crucial points in such dramatic, kamikaze circumstances.
But frustration and anger that loyal fans were being forced to try and understand the inexplicability of one of the most baffling Liverpool starting elevens, and its resulting formation, in years.
Dear Mr Benitez, some questions if you please.
IT WAS all looking so rosy with four minutes to go.
Two points clear at the top of the table and Everton put to the sword.
But the negativity that runs through our play once again cost us. Massively.
There are only so many draws you can record, particularly at home, before a genuine title bid is seriously undermined.
THEY always said Houllier had a stubborn struck in him.
As 90 minutes frustrating slipped by on Saturday, it was hard not to conclude that Benitez was displaying a similar trait.
Ah, it tastes sweet doesn't it?
All those years of undeserved defeats at the hands of the lucky Mancs momentarily evaporated on Saturday as we once again bossed them off the park at Anfield.
IT'S DIFFICULT to say if we should be relatively happy with today's draw against The Gooners.
Certainly, with three other English teams in the draw, avoiding all of them would have been too much to ask for.
